Cool blog no.2 – 300stories

300stories is, just like The Matilda Project,  a great idea skillfully poured into a blog. The author is Dieter Rogiers. His idea is to write 300 stories in a year span. The condition is each one must be 300-words-long or shorter. That’s pretty cool if you ask me. Here’s a fragment of his explanation:

I should write more. That’s what I said to myself on the eve of my 35th birthday. This blog is my way to grab the bull by the horns. My aim? To produce a short story in 300 words or less practically each day for the next year.

Some of the stories will be hardly more than a sentence. Some of them will be hell to whittle down to a mere 300 words. But that is the challenge I’m setting myself. I’m hoping you’ll enjoy these stories and you’re free to comment on them.

He’s also got a Twitter account.

300stories es, al igual que The Matilda Project, una gran idea vertida en un blog. El autor es Dieter Rogiers. Su idea es escribir 300 historias en el transcurso de un año. La condición es que cada una de ellas debe tener una extensión de 300 palabras o menos. Ésa es una idea genial. Aquí hay una pequeño fragmento de su explicación:

Debería escribir más. Eso es lo que me dije a mí mismo en la víspera de mi cumpleaños número 35. Este blog es la manera en la que tomo al toro por los cuernos. ¿Mi objetivo? Producir una historia corta en 300 palabras o menos, prácticamente a diario, durante el próximo año.

Algunas de las historias serán apenas un poco más que una frase. Será una pesadilla reducir algunas otras a tan solo 300 palabras. Pero ése es el reto que me impongo a mí mismo. Espero que disfruten estas historias y siéntanse libres de comentar sobre ellas.

Cool Blog No.1 – The Matilda Project

So we decided to start a new section, it’s called Cool blogs (as you can see on the title we are very creative). Here at Bookstops we’ve been interacting with some other literary blogs lately. There’s quite a few great ones, but Emily Reddon’s THE MATILDA PROJECT really is an amazing one. It is quite a beautiful and fun yet somewhat nostalgic blog. But, hey, we won’t dwell on –so effortlessly– trying to describe its awesomeness. Here’s a fragment of Emily’s explain-y bit:

Starting now, I’ll scour the world and London […]  for the little independent bookshops that smell of paper and sell you not just a book, but a little piece of human history.  Every week, no matter where in the world my crazy nomadic lifestyle takes me, I’ll share a new indie bookshop.

The goal is to prove to this sad generation of button-clickers that the ease of the internet is no match for the adventure and joy of a good old-fashioned human-run, paper-book-selling bookshop.

Aquí en Bookstops decidimos iniciar una nueva sección llamada Cool blogs (tal como lo pueden ver en el título; somos muy creativos). Últimamente hemos estado interactuando  con otros blogs especializados en literatura. Hay varios bastante buenos, pero THE MATILDA PROJECT de Emily Reddon es realmente increíble. Es un blog muy lindo y divertido, pero a la vez algo nostálgico. No nos complicaremos en (inútilmente) intentar describir su genialidad. Aquí tenemos un fragmento de la explicación de Emily:

Empezando desde ahora, recorreré Londres y el mundo en busca de las pequeñas librerías independientes que huelen a papel y venden no solamente un libro, sino un pedazo de la historia humana. Cada semana, sin importar a qué parte del mundo me lleve mi loco estilo de vida nómada, compartiré una nueva librería independiente.

La meta es probar a esta triste generación de adictos a la tecnología que la comodidad del internet no se compara con la aventura y felicidad de una buena y antigua librería, con libros de papel y administrada por humanos.
